The Continuing Adventures of SuperPreemie

Another “P” first

Posted on: February 22, 2011

Shoshanna’s had either the same very long-lived cold or three colds piled one on top of the other. We’d had her at twice-daily Pulmicort for three weeks and twice-daily albuterol for two and it was only getting a little better. Then she started running a fever on Saturday afternoon. It came and went but mostly came back as soon as any meds she’d taken had worn off. When she was still pushing 102 yesterday morning we took her to the doctor. Luckily she doesn’t have bronchitis or pneumonia, nor does she have strep (which isn’t really consistent with her symptoms but has been going around school so we figured better to test her, given her history of symptom-less strep infections). She was well and truly wheezing, though, despite the doubled breathing treatments, so we’re two doses into her first course of oral prednisone. And I don’t know what would have happened had she NOT been put on the steroids but she bounded into our room at 6:30 this morning, her usual chipper self, and cool as a cucumber. (Even feverish, she still bounded into our bed, but not chipper and most definitely not cool.)
