The Continuing Adventures of SuperPreemie

Double her age, here’s what you get…

Posted on: September 13, 2008

Two years ago, I was keeping a list of the words that Shoshanna could say/sign.  These days, it’s more like a list of the words she can read.  Ones that she gets pretty consistently (all of these are sight words… she can sound some simple things out but it requires us to help her) include:

  • no
  • David
  • cat
  • the end
  • door
  • good
  • I
  • see
  • Target (with context)
  • Lowe’s (with context)
  • Wegman’s (with context)

I probably am missing some, too.  Last week she read me an entire book that they had read at school.  Admittedly, the book consisted entirely of pictures of things that happen/exist at school and the text of each page was  “I see [object/activity in picture]”, but she read it to me ALL BY HERSELF.

We are also continually amazed at what she hears and picks up on enough to remember.  She will bring up a topic that we have mentioned once in passing hours or even days later.
