The Continuing Adventures of SuperPreemie

Posted on: August 22, 2008

Shoshanna’s birthday is just over a month away.  That means we are arriving at the season of anniversaries… the anniversary of my hard drive failure (yes, somehow my mind has linked this with Shoshanna’s premature arrival).  The anniversary of my leaving for Sussex.  The anniversary of the dinner during which my friends told me, “We know what your baby looks like RIGHT NOW!” – they being the parents of a former 25 weeker who is 14 months older than S.  The anniversary of the trip home, the spotting, all culminating in the big day with the argument about whether or not to call the doctor and then the fateful trip to L&D “just to make sure”.

Maybe someday the approach of September won’t be one that has such mixed emotions.  Maybe.  Someday.

But not this year.

*hug* Those anniversaries sure do seem to stick with you — I think it’s hard for people to understand how much they can affect you, even four years down the road when everything is “fine.” I have another three months before my month o’ unpleasant anniversaries begins. May the pain of those memories soften every year and the subject of them continue to bring you great joy (at least when she isn’t driving you up the wall, as 3 1/2 year olds are wont to do).

I completely know how you feel. I get that way in June, the anniversary of my ectopic. Of course, it’s two weeks after Katie’s birthday that the “anniversary” hits so it’s such a mixed bag, a complete rollercoaster to be celebrating your healthy happy girl while your mind is going to the scary bits. *hugs*

Everyone carries hard anniversaries, but carry we must. It’s wonderful that yours is balanced with such a joyful daughter. We wish you continued happiness. (And, yes, noticed the bright new format!)
