The Continuing Adventures of SuperPreemie

Happy Passover, all!

Posted on: April 3, 2007

We had an entertaining couple of days – Shoshanna felt a bit warm to me when I put her to bed Saturday night but not warm enough to take her temp. By mid-morning Sunday, though, it was pretty clear that she was feeling under the weather and after her nap she was running a 101.5º fever. We gave her some Tylenol and she perked back up, but we could sure tell when it wore off.

Here, Opa! Fever Eyes

At bedtime, it was up to 102.5º, so we put her to bed and then I called the ped’s answering service. The nurse who called back told us to keep an eye on her and if her temp hit 104º we should call back, or if the fever continued for a couple of days. I was up with her several times overnight, but I knew she was getting better because even after the bedtime meds had worn off, she wasn’t that hot, and she demanded food sometime between 4:30 and 5 am.

Yesterday, of course, she refused to nap, and then when we went over to our friend Wendy’s house to help prep Seder, she refused to let me do much work in the kitchen because she was exhausted and demanding “uppie” the whole time. She did pretty well during Seder and dinner, and spent the after-dinner portion of the service in a lap, and crashed out in the car on the way home.

I was reflecting that she’s always been at a pretty good place developmentally when Passover rolls around… the first year, she was almost 7 months old / 3 1/2 months adjusted and sat quite happily (and, ultimately, sleepily) in her carseat. Last year, she colored and played with the four questions finger puppets and then went to bed. This year, had she napped (other than half an hour in the car when we ran home to collect Daddy), she would have done fine through the whole thing. (Fine being relative, of course. I consider happily “reading” a spare haggadah and chattering about whatever came to her mind “fine” for a two-year-old in a strange house confined to her high chair for a religious ceremony.)
