The Continuing Adventures of SuperPreemie

The human pinwheel

Posted on: May 15, 2005

Lately we’ve been finding Shoshanna in her crib with her face smooshed into the bumper pads on a daily basis. She squrims, and in squirming, rotates her little self. Usually she gets stuck on the side of the crib, though, and can’t keep going. Sometimes she’s quite content there, and other times she gets upset and fusses until we come and rescue her.

A couple of mornings ago, though, I got up in the morning and found her rotated 180 degrees from where we usually put her down. Consultation with Matthew revealed that she had, in fact gotten herself there all by herself. And then this morning when she woke up, she’d spun herself 90 degrees.

We’re going to have to move all the toys that we’d been keeping at the “foot” of her crib (where we weren’t concerned about her getting her head into them and smothering herself) out of there, because there is no longer a “head” and “foot” of her bed.

it’s not always practical, but you could always ditch the crib!

then again, you might find yourself with a whole new set of issues ( sorry in advance for all the spammy links 🙂 ).

we went through a spinning phase with Helene as well. it was quite mad, as in the daytime she would refuse to move even an inch, but at night she was up partying or something all by herself….

yeah, unfortunately that’s just not a possibility right now. She’s still in our room – we realized just this past week that we can’t get the crib into the second bedroom without taking it apart, so we’ve decided to keep her in with us until we move mid-summer.

actually, Shoshanna does the same thing! When we put her down for a nap, she stays pretty still, but at night she squirms herself all over the place.

auntie jacy is proud of the acrobatics of her wonderfully spry niece. keep on spinning! i used to spin all the time, from newborn through the present. and i turned out fine…or did i?
