Really interesting article about the discovery of ROP

Posted on: April 19, 2005

From the Washington Post:
“Establishing Proof: Some Fifty Years Ago a Baby-Blinding Epidemic Confounded Experts…”
It’s not really about ROP per se, but about the process that the doctors and researchers went through to get to the point of understanding that they have now, which is, of course, not all that good, but better than nothing.

Read the article, and thank you for mentioning it. Esta

can you tell i’m catching up on my reading 🙂

interesting article – as you mentioned the current understanding is slightly better than nothing. odin didn’t have any of the known risk factors and still ended up with disease that would have made him go blind. so even if they can’t completely prevent it, it’s amazing what they can do to fix it.

Interesting article. One thing that struck me – I didn’t know what a modern invention the randomized controlled trial is. Nowadays, they’re the gold standard as far as strength of research evidence. It’s amazing how recent a lot of things are that we take for granted!
