Update: NOT a carrier

Posted by: Sarah on: July 23, 2009

Shoshanna’s followup swab was negative for strep.  She was also very brave when she got her first Hep A injection, which we decided to do on the spot so she can have both doses done before we go to India in December (they need to be done six months apart; we’ll be about a week [...]

Just call her Strep Shoshanna…

Posted by: Sarah on: July 10, 2009

… because like Typhoid Mary, she can harbor bacteria without any symptoms.
We were at the ped’s today because when they re-checked her a couple of weeks after she had strep in May, her nodes were still a little big and they wanted a recheck later.
Dr. M confirmed that she does have some seasonal allergies and [...]

And just for fun…

Posted by: Sarah on: May 12, 2009

I took S to the doctor yesterday for her runny nose that just won’t quit and they went ahead and swabbed her for strep.
You guessed it.  Little Miss No-Symptoms has it, too.
She’s a bit run down today but has been cleared to go back to school tomorrow – I hope she feels up to [...]

One

Posted by: Sarah on: December 16, 2008

That is how many times Shoshanna coughed between when she woke up this morning and when she left for school.  And we’re not talking one coughing fit, we’re talking one single solitary cough.
All hail Zithromax!

The “P” word…

Pencil.
Paragraph.
Pasta.
Porcupine.
Psychology.
Pneumonia.
Guess which one Shoshanna has?  Yeah, the last one.  It’s of the “walking” variety, but the cold she got over Thanksgiving just would not go away, and took up residence in her chest in a way that I’d never seen in her before.  So on Friday I called and asked the ped’s office what they [...]

New friends and the Attack of the Tummy Ick

Posted by: Sarah on: November 10, 2005

Not necessarily in that order. Shoshanna is recovering from her first tummy bug… probably brought home from daycare (one of the other members of the high chair crew had it last week). She’s feeling much better now than she was over the weekend.
Feeling bad did not, however, prevent her from making a [...]

we keep on keepin’ on…

Posted by: Sarah on: November 4, 2005

I don’t think I ever posted about the ultimate Prilosec decision. We’ve now been reflux-med free for 4 1/2 weeks! Shoshanna’s doing fine without the Prilosec. We’re due to go back to GI in late January for a checkup, but if she’s still doing well then, she’ll be discharged from GI. [...]

Antibiotics:1, Sickness:0

Posted by: Sarah on: October 18, 2005

Halfway through a course of antibiotics, Shoshanna is feeling much better; we saw the doctor yesterday and she said that her chest is completely silent and that her ear is looking much better. Hooray antibiotics! Of course, getting the antibiotics INTO her is a challenge. We’ve been putting it into some food, [...]

Sometimes a cold is more than just a cold…

Posted by: Sarah on: October 12, 2005

We like to think we’re moderately un-paranoid preemie parents. We waited four days for Shoshanna’s cough to resolve on its own, but since it hadn’t, I took her to see the pediatrician this morning. The upshot is that she has:

a respiratory infection (there’s a shocker) but the congestion is mostly in her upper [...]

Cold:1; Shoshanna:0

Posted by: Sarah on: October 11, 2005

Despite my best efforts, Shoshanna has caught my cold. As far as colds go, it’s not so bad (she’s definitely less sick than I have been, but that’s not really saying much) but she’s been a little big grouchy. This makes it hard to tell how well the no-prilosec experiment is going, of [...]
