We were some of the first of our college friends to have kids. In fact, the kid population among our college friends is still pretty small. All of Shoshanna’s good-condition, too-small clothes, however, get passed on to Baby Zoe, daughter of our friends Chris and Ann. We’ve been friends with them FOREVER – Ann and Matthew were housemates right after they graduated and she was Matthew’s groomschick (what, what would YOU call the girl in the tux standing up with the groomsmen?); Chris lived upstairs from me and we got to be friends my first year of college and somehow we have never murdered each other (though it’s been a close thing a time or two, I admit). And Zoe spent a good part of her first year looking quite a bit like Shoshanna (y’know, big head, dark hair, blue eyes…).
Shoshanna has recently decided that Zoe is her baby sister, which the moms at least find kind of charming. She talks about going to visit Zoe or Zoe coming to visit us (despite the fact that there are no such plans currently in the works, though we are contemplating Carleton reunion for next summer); she enthusiastically puts too-small clothes in a box for her; she pulled a book off of the shelf the other day and said, “Mama, we need to send this to Baby Zoe”. Zoe is also owed a small pumpkin-shaped container of bubble stuff.
I can’t wait to see what happens when these two girls DO finally meet.

Shoshanna should be getting a card from Zoe shortly, if it’s not already there. At least I think we remembered to mail it.
